July 2009 Retirement of Harold Hargreaves At the end of May 2009 Harold Hargreaves, formerly a partner at the firm, retired after 37 years service. Peter Bolton now heads the Conveyancing and Probate departments and Harold's clients are now being looked after by Peter and Filex, Amanda Howfield at Colne and solicitors John Greenwood and Dawn Walmsley at Nelson. April 2009 New Payment Protection and Loan Enforceability section Head of Civil Litigation and Partner, Andrew Payne, supported by solicitor Lauren Palmer has been running increasing number of claims relating to personal loans. There has been governmental intervention to cut back on the sharp practices of some banks and insurance companies and heavy fines have been levied. We can now offer 'No Win No Fee' arrangements, backed by insurance cover to enable our clients to pursue claims to get back monies spent on mis-sold policies. July 2008 Local solicitor joins firm Local solicitor, Dawn Walmsley who joined the conveyancing and probate department at the beginning of February of this year, will from August 2008 onwards be working from our Nelson office. December 2006 Old firms merge to give new service standards On 1st December, 2005 the long established firms, Farnworth & Watson and Shaw, Mottershead & Badgery, merged to form the new firm, Farnworth Shaw, which has now entered its second year as a merged operation. The combined, five-partner firm now boasts three offices, two in Colne and one in Nelson and a total complement of 30. The Civil Litigation Department now boasts six fee earners, the Matrimonial Department three fee earners and Non-Contentious Department four. All-in-all the Firm believes it is now well placed to offer a full range of specialised legal services to all clients of both Farnworth & Watson and Shaw, Mottershead & Badgery and now runs a state of the art case management computer system linked between all offices to help the firm combine the traditional high quality service standards and the most up-to-date methods.
